"Politicisation" of the civil service

One of the traditional characteristics of the British civil service is that it is (or should be) politically neutral. It is argued by some commentators that Mrs Thatcher and Tony Blair have undermined this political neutrality during their periods of office. This article is by an ex-civil servant who describes how this politicisation has occured.
